From Pontoosuck to Pittsfield
Known first as Pontoosuck, the area grew around farms, brooks, mills and the Housatonic River. Wool manufacturing shaped the 19th century; William Stanley’s electric company helped make Pittsfield a center of invention. Today, the city’s story continues through its neighborhoods, riverfront and lively downtown.
